Dead Beauty

Original Mixed-Media Textured Acrylic Painting

There’s beauty in the things we’re taught to overlook.

Dead Beauty puts one of West Texas’ most misunderstood characters front and center—the turkey vulture. Bold, awkward, a little intimidating, and completely unapologetic, he stands against an explosion of turquoise skies, wildflowers, cactus, and distant West Texas mountains.

Heavy sculptural texture gives the vulture a physical presence, while unexpected flashes of pink, turquoise, and blue break through his dark feathers and connect him to the colorful landscape around him. The result is equal parts gritty and joyful—a celebration of the strange, imperfect, and unexpectedly beautiful.

This original piece was created to make you look twice. Because beauty doesn’t always arrive pretty.
